Which non-Tesla EVs can use Tesla Superchargers in Canada?
Last checked
Short answer: almost every mainstream EV brand sold in Canada now has official access to Tesla Superchargers. Cars with a built-in NACS port (most 2026 Hyundai, Kia, Toyota, Lexus, Subaru and Rivian models, plus several others) plug straight in. Cars with a CCS1 port need the automaker's approved NACS adapter, which ranges from free to about C$400 in Canada. You pay more per kWh than a Tesla owner unless you buy a Tesla Supercharging membership.
The main exceptions: the Audi Q4 e-tron, brands not on Tesla's list (such as Lotus and VinFast), older CHAdeMO cars, and a few models still waiting on Canadian details. Check the brand table, then confirm in the Tesla app before a long trip.
What NACS and SAE J3400 mean
NACS (North American Charging Standard) is Tesla's plug. SAE International published it as SAE J3400 in October 2024, so "NACS port" and "J3400 port" mean the same thing. Most other EVs use CCS1 (the J1772 plug plus two large DC pins) and need a DC adapter between the Tesla cable and the car.
Tesla's Canadian support page lists three kinds of site: Tesla-only (no other brands), NACS sites (open to brands Tesla has an agreement with; CCS1 cars bring their own adapter) and Magic Dock sites (a built-in CCS1 adapter on the post; only a few in Canada). Tesla told Electric Autonomy in April 2026 that over 90% of its Canadian Superchargers are open to all EVs and that all new sites will be.
Brand-by-brand status in Canada
"Native" means the car has a NACS port from the factory. "Adapter" means a CCS1 car needs the automaker-approved adapter. Prices are Canadian dollars before tax, from the most recent Canadian source we could find, with the date. Adapter offers change often, so confirm with your dealer.

Does Canada match the US rollout?
Mostly, but often later, and the adapter deals differ. Ford, GM, Rivian, Volvo, Polestar and Nissan launched in both countries at about the same time. The main differences:
- Hyundai: access went live in both countries on March 25, 2025, but free adapters reached US owners in spring 2025 and Canadian owners only in July 2026, through a dealer visit.
- Kia: some US EV6 and EV9 buyers got free adapters; in Canada they are sold at dealers.
- Honda and Acura: US in July 2025 (US$225 adapter), Canada in October 2025 (C$400).
- Porsche and Volkswagen: Porsche's paid adapter is C$250 here and US$185 in the US; VW's is about C$300 here and US$200 there.
- Toyota: US reports say the 2026 bZ comes with adapters; Toyota Canada says owners order one through a dealer.

How to charge a non-Tesla at a Supercharger
- Check compatibility. Your brand must be enabled and your car needs the right software, sometimes an over-the-air update.
- Pick your app: your automaker's app if it supports Superchargers, or the Tesla app (version 4.30.5 or later, per Tesla Canada) with your vehicle and a payment method.
- Find a compatible site in the Tesla app's map or your brand's app. Not every site is open to every brand.
- Attach the adapter to the Tesla cable first, then plug into the car. Use only a DC adapter approved by your automaker or Tesla: Tesla prohibits third-party adapters, and several automakers say they can void your warranty.
- Start the session by selecting the post number (such as 4A) in the app, then plug in within about a minute.
What non-Tesla drivers pay
Pricing is set per site, shown in the app before you plug in, and locked when the session starts. Some sites have peak and off-peak rates.
- Non-Tesla rates are higher. Drive Tesla Canada's price tracker (updated October 8, 2026) lists Canadian non-Tesla rates from C$0.27 to C$1.01/kWh, against an average Tesla-owner rate of about C$0.39/kWh. Eight sites in New Brunswick and one in PEI bill per minute.
- Prices change often. Tesla changed prices at most Canadian sites around September 11 and again around September 24, 2026. One Calgary site's non-Tesla rate went from C$0.68 to C$0.82/kWh, then to C$0.66. Check the app on the day.
- Membership. A monthly Supercharging membership gives non-Tesla drivers Tesla-owner pricing at select sites, covers all your vehicles and can be cancelled anytime. It was C$16.99 a month in 2023 and 2024 reports; Tesla's Canadian page does not list today's price, so check the app. It pays off only if you Supercharge often; for an occasional road trip, pay as you go.
- Holds and fees. Tesla places a C$20 authorization hold when you pay in the app (C$40 for guest checkout). Congestion fees apply to everyone.

V3 vs V4 posts and cable reach
Supercharger stalls are built for a Tesla backing in with its left-rear port next to the post. Many other EVs have the port elsewhere.
- V3 posts have short cables. With a front or passenger-side port you may have to park awkwardly or across two stalls; Porsche Canada advises pulling closer than the lines suggest.
- V4 posts have longer cables meant to reach other brands' ports from the same stall. Tesla is adding them at new sites.
- Etiquette: avoid blocking a neighbouring stall, and never use an extension cable. In winter, snowbanks shrink stalls further.
Charge speed depends on your car. A CCS1 car on an adapter is limited by its own DC rate, and some are capped lower on Superchargers: the Lucid Air at about 50 kW and the Porsche Macan Electric at up to 135 kW. Compare peak rates on our fastest-charging EVs list.
The other direction: CCS chargers and Tesla or NACS cars
- NACS cars on CCS chargers: most automakers moving to NACS supply or sell a NACS-to-CCS1 adapter for FLO, Electrify Canada, Circuit électrique, BC Hydro, Petro-Canada and others. It doesn't always come with the car: Toyota Canada sells the 2026 bZ adapter separately.
- Networks adding NACS plugs: FLO, BC Hydro, Circuit électrique and Ivy are adding NACS cables at some sites. Electrify Canada announced NACS plans for 2025, but we could not confirm any are in service. Electric Autonomy reported in April 2026 that Petro-Canada had no NACS plugs.
- Teslas on CCS chargers: Tesla sells a CCS Combo 1 adapter in Canada (C$175 as of August 2024). Most Teslas built from 2020 can use it; older ones need a retrofit.
FAQ
Can a Ford Mustang Mach-E use Tesla Superchargers in Canada?
Yes. Ford was first, in February 2024. You need a Ford-approved adapter from a Ford dealer (reported at C$280 after the free offer ended in 2024), and you start sessions in the Ford app.
Do Hyundai EVs in Canada need an adapter for Superchargers?
It depends on the model and year. The Ioniq 9 and most 2025 and newer Ioniq 5 plug in directly. The Kona Electric and older Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 have CCS1; Hyundai Canada gives eligible cars delivered by the end of 2025 a free adapter after an EV Special Care dealer visit, while supplies last until December 31, 2026.
Can I use any NACS adapter from Amazon?
Tesla says no: its Canadian support page prohibits third-party adapters, and several automakers warn they can void your warranty. BMW approves one specific Lectron adapter, sold by Lectron.
Can every Supercharger in Canada charge other EVs?
No. Some sites are kept for Teslas, and some brands (such as Lucid) work only at V3 and newer sites. Filter by your vehicle in the Tesla app.
